The theme of the KAWAII collection is kawaii aesthetics and culture.
“Polite silhouettes, oversized collars, white knee socks, and innocent uniforms”. - This is how designer Joanna Hawrot describes her new collection. It attempts to rewrite multicultural rhetoric into the language of fashion, design, and pleasure. Kawaii culture, as it is known in Japanese pop culture, inspired Hawrot to create a collection that pauses over her own needs and the changing language of pleasure. The collection is an intimate dialogue with herself and a creative representation of what is closest to her. Variations of schoolgirl kawaii, oversized collars, white knee socks, and innocent uniforms are infused with gently erotic energy that empowers and emancipates the wearers. The collection will be part of the exhibition “Kimono as Experience. The New Language of Art by Joanna Hawrot” at the National Museum in Wroclaw from June 18 to August 25, 2024.
