Joanna Hawrot has to her name several dozen collections, performances, solo exhibitions, collaborations with the most prestigious cultural institutions all over the world, and further names of artists who become part of her artistic world.
For 14 years she has been realizing her original philosophy "FROM FASHION TO ART", working on the development of her original method, which consists in deepening the relationship between fashion and art. The form of the European kimono has become the hallmark of her work. The unique contents, which she designs on fabrics, are the result of the adaptation of the art world and collaboration with artists: Sonia Hensler (2015), Angelika Markul (2020, 2021), Aleksandra Waliszewska (2023), Maurycy Gomulicki (2019), Wojciech Ireneusz Sobczyk (2022) and Paweł Bownik (2023).
Joanna Hawrot's kimonos particularly strongly affect the so-called ART LOVERS - those enjoying an intimate relationship with art. This constitutes the extraordinariness of these kimonos, which become "WORK OF ART" and thus "WEARABLE ART".
From the beginning of her activity, the designer has boldly crossed geographical boundaries. International echo was made by the Hawrot brand show during BROOKLYN FASHION WEEKEND in New York (2013). In turn, the original collection "San Andreas Series" HAWROT x Cristopher Cichocki was the project inaugurating the art pavilion during the Coachella festival in the USA (2022). In Europe, the artist had her representation during Berlin Fashion Week (2010, 2014), The GALLERY International Fashion Trade Show in Düsseldorf (2014, 2015) and as part of Kult Exhibition Joseph Gallery in Paris (2012). Her work also enjoys success in the film world. The designer created costumes for the international film production "The Wall Of Mexico" (Mexico, 2018).
The leading direction of the designer's interest is Japan. In September 2016 her multimedia installation #KASSILYWANDYNSKY was presented as part of BIWAKO BIENNALE and Tatsuno Art Project (Japan). Success was also achieved by the exhibition and lecture under the slogan #KASSILYGAME at Chyoda Gallery in Tokyo.
The combining of the worlds of fashion and art resulted in a list of awards: "DOSKONAŁOŚĆ MODY TWOJEGO STYLU" 2024, the "MUST HAVE 2023" award for the "I put a spell on" collection and "MUST HAVE 2024" for "THE DREAMERS" collection, the title "Designer of the Year HUSH Selected 2014".
Joanna Hawrot developed her original language of art, using tools from the world of fashion. The designer's original method was appreciated, among others, by the National Museum in Wrocław organizing the artist's solo exhibition: "Kimono as Experience. Joanna Hawrot's Language of Art" (2024).
Her original projects also took place at the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology, Cricoteka Museum and the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art in Warsaw.
The performative approach to the poetics of costume became the basis for cooperation with such institutions as: Teatr Powszechny, Teatr Studio, the Polish Institute in Tokyo and Düsseldorf, the Polish Embassy in Brussels.
